The Top 10 Wireless Trends for 2008

Fortune's Michael Lev-Ram's writes that 2008 promises to be just as eventful [as 2007], starting with the FCC’s spectrum auction in January in The Top 10 Wireless Trends for 2008. The trends I'm looking forward to the most are (1) cell phones based on Google's Android mobile platform and (2) a greater variety of all-touch cell phones. [JH]

Circuits split on Web download as interstate commerce

From the National Law Journal: "In a case involving the possession of child pornography, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals broke with two other circuits, the 3rd and 5th, and ruled against the government's assertion that the interstate character of the Internet means a connection to a Web site server invariably involves data moving in interstate commerce."  (sub. req.)  [RJ

Anthony Ciolli Sued or How Not to Use Web Communications to Get a Job

Last week I suggested that law students could blog to draw the attention of potential employers. Here's an example of what not to do.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that two female Yale Law School students have sued Anthony Ciolli, the former "chief educational director" of the online law student forum, AutoAdmit.com, and others who allegedly used pseudonyms and posted the students’ photos as well as defamatory and threatening remarks about them on the online law-school discussion forum. Here's a copy of the complaint. [JH]

How Blogging Can Help You Get a New Job

Interesting article from the WSJ (sub req):  "Corporate recruiters have long surfed the Web to vet potential hires, but now they are also surfing blogs to unearth job candidates, expanding their talent pool and gaining insights they say they can't get from résumés and interviews."  [RJ]

Blog Entries as Evidence in Murder Investigation

Bryan Grove, 17, has been charged with first-degree murder for his girlfriend's mother, Linda Damn, death. The girlfriend, Tess Damn, 15, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and with evidence tampering. How were they caught? Time is reporting that Tess and Bryan apparently documented their feelings about Linda Damn in their MySpace.com blogs in the weeks before the murder and during the 25 days in which Linda Damm's body remained undiscovered. Read more about it in Murder, They Blogged. [JH]

Alice in Wonderland Meets 3L Epiphany

Brandy Karl (bk!) is hosting Blawg Review #54, and it’s well worth a visit. She takes the creative approach of turning it into an “Alice in Wonderland” narrative.

Here’s her description of my recent work:

Both law clerks and law students may have too much Time. Ian Best, however, receives the all important Academic Credit for his work at 3L Epiphany, has assembled a list of Law Reviews that cite blogs, to follow up his other list of law clerks legal opinions that cite blogs.

>Sigh<, said the Rabbit. “I wish I had more Time.”
