I am not sure whether there are any cheap or free alternatives to Wikipedia on the horizon but there can be no doubt of the need for them. After all, who in his right mind would trust an encyclopedia driven by power-drunk kids wielding sweeping admin and editing rights? The fact that Wikipedia was founded by a former securities broker and Internet pornographer does not exactly inspire confidence either.
