ABA's Blawg Directory
Check out the ABA's Blawg Directory, www.abajournal.com/blawgs. It contains more than 1,000 blogs written by lawyers, with more being added daily. The directory includes information about the authors, what they cover in their blogs, and also include excerpts from their 10 latest posts. You can sort the directory by subject, who writes the blog (partners, associates, judges, law professors, etc.), or by the state or court they blog about. The directory also lists blogs written by students and professors at more than 130 law schools. If you know of a blog not listed in the directory, contact: www.abajournal.com/blawgs/submit [JH]

Final Count: 686
I have been adding legal blogs to my list over the past few days. The number of legal blogs is now 686.
At this point I will stop collecting blogs, even though there are surely more out there. This week (which is our Spring Break) I will begin putting together my taxonomy online. I will focus on categorizing the blogs I have, rather than making certain every legal blog is included.
The final list of 686 legal blogs is here.

Final Number of Legal Blogs: 610!
The number of legal blogs on my list is now 610. Readers looking for the list can go here.
This exemplifies the power of the blogosphere. I received almost 900 visitors in one day because of links from Concurring Opinions, How Appealing, Opinio Juris, TaxProf Blog, and The Volokh Conspiracy. Many readers commented or emailed me legal blogs that were missing, and so my list grew by more than 100.
This in turn led to more links from legal blogs, including:
4. The Practice - Note their grade recommendation
I am grateful for receiving my first link from a foreign legal blog: Actualidad y Derecho. It appears to be a law student group blog. As readers know I am not currently including foreign blogs in my list and taxonomy, other than those from Canada. And I am not including law student blogs unless they are for a class or affiliated with a journal. The reason is simple practicality: 610 gives me enough work for now. But I would like to thank Actualided y Derecho for the write-up and the link. It’s a very attractive site, and the content looks quite substantial. I hope one day (post-law school) to expand my list to include high quality law student blogs, and legal blogs from across the English and Spanish-speaking worlds.
I expect that 610 may be very different from my final number at the end of the semester. There are some blogs on my list that I will remove, if I decide they are not sufficiently “legal.” And there are some blogs I will discover as I read through the ones on my list and look at their blogrolls. So it is difficult to predict how many legal blogs there really are, which will depend partially on my own criteria.
Thanks again to all of those bloggers who have linked to 3L Epiphany, including ones that I may have missed.

More Legal Blogs, and Another Exception
The following legal blogs are additions to my original list. A few have been added already, but most will be inserted over the weekend. Readers may continue suggesting more blogs through comments or email.
Blawg Review (new link)
California Personal Injury and Insurance Blog
Institute for Global Security Law & Policy
Law, Terrorism & Homeland Security
Personal Injury, Social Security Disability
South Carolina Appellate Law Blog
Sui Generis – a New York law blog
The vast majority of these suggestions came from readers who were referred here by Concurring Opinions, How Appealing, Opinio Juris, TaxProf Blog, and The Volokh Conspiracy. I would like to thank Prof. Solove, Mr. Bashman, Prof. Alford, Prof. Caron, and Prof. Volokh for citing me, which helped build up this list.
I will now add another exception to my omission of law student blogs: I will accept blogs associated with a specific law journal or law review. For this reason I am including The Pocket Part (Yale) in my list. (But is The Pocket Part really a “blog”? We’ll endeavor to figure that out later.)
Three more things:
1. Congratulations to Prof. Doug Berman, whose Sentencing Law and Policy blog was recently cited by the Ohio Supreme Court (see here). If there were a competition among blogs for judicial citations, Prof. Berman’s would win hands down.
2. I would like to thank Evan Schaeffer’s Legal Underground for my favorite write-up so far: Law Student Spots a Pentakaidecablog in the Wild! (But please read my comment.)
3. This is my 100th post.
That’s it for now. No more blogging until the MPRE is over. Wish me luck…

List of Legal Blogs: An Introduction
I have now posted my entire list of approximately 500 legal blogs. I divided this list into sections to avoid formatting problems. [Update: The list now numbers 686. See here.]
My purpose for compiling this list is to create a taxonomy of legal blogs.
The complete list can be accessed by scrolling down, or by clicking on the individual links here:
A B C DE FGH IJK L MNO PQR S T UVWYZ
As I indicated here, this is both an incomplete and over-inclusive list. Some of the blogs are inactive (i.e. no recent postings). And some of them are not accurately described as “legal blogs.” On the other hand, I expect that there are many active legal blogs missing from the list, especially state and local blogs that I have not yet come across.
I invite readers to make additions to the list. Please feel free to suggest legal blogs that are missing and should be included. However, please do not submit law student blogs or non-U.S. legal blogs. I explain why briefly here, and in comments to this post. Two exceptions: I will accept group blogs by law students which are for a class. And I will accept legal blogs from Canada.
Update: A list of blogs which were included after the original list was made is here.
